Weather Activities Preschool

Weather Activity for Preschool:


  • The children should be encouraged to discuss the weather elements, and the effect and influence it has on the activities.

    The preschool childrens' visual observation skills will be developed during the weatheractivity.

    A Sunny Day: Painting a Bright Sun:

    Activity 1: Finger Paint Activity:

    The simple finger paint activity will provide the preschool children with a creative activity, stimulating their fine motor skills and their sense of touch at the same time, when painting with their fingers.


    This is a messy activity and the preschool children will be encouraged to wear aprons.

    Materials Needed for the Activity:

    1. Thick Colored Paint.
    2. Cardboard Paper.

    Procedure:

    • Encourage the children to discuss their observations on the weather for the day. They should point out that the sun is shinning, and there for it is hot.
    • Encourage them further to discuss what would be nice to eat and drink on such hot days, for instance cold drinks, and ice-cream.


    • The children will be encouraged to dip their fingers into the thick paint, and paint their sun on the cardboard, using their fingers, stimulating the touch sensation.
    • Paint the circle, then add some sun rays, spreading outwards.
    • Encourage the children to color the circle, using their fingers, for ultimate stimulation of the touch sense.
    • Enjoy!


    Activity 2: A Rainy Day Activity:

    • Encourage the children to listen to the rain drops falling, and discuss the sounds they hear on a rainy day, for example the thunder, rain drops, and the wind, stimulating their sense of hearing.

    • Observe the clouds, and the different formations they have.
    • Ask the children when do we see rainbows? When the sun shines through drops of water. Encourage the childrenobserve the rainbow and discuss the colors of the rainbow.


    Activity 3: Snow and Icy Weather:

    • Take the children outside into the snowy, icy weather, make sure they are dressed warmly.
    • Ask the preschoolers what happens to their bodies when it is cold outside?
    • They should describe how their noses feel, and what color are their cheecks?

    • Encourage them to blow out their breaths, and see what happens.
    • Encourage the children to observe their footprints in the snow.
    • The children can collect snow flakes and look at them through a magnifying glass.
    • They should attempt to draw their observations on a piece of paper.
