Valentine Preschool Activity


Valentine Preschool Activity:

This Valentine preschool activity will not only provide the children with creative opportunities, but will also be enjoyed by all, while stimulating and developing their fine motor muscles andtheir eye-hand-co-ordination.

Creating Salt Dough Heart Shaped Bookmarks:

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. 2 Cups of Plain Flour.
  2. 1 Cup of Luke Warm Water.
  3. 1 Cup of Salt.
  4. Mixing Bowl.
  5. A Spoon.
  6. Clean Ice-Cream Sticks.
  7. Pastry Board.
  8. Rolling Pin.
  9. Heart Shaped Cutter or Template.
  10. Baking Tray.
  11. Glue.
  12. Red or Dark Pink Poster Paint.
  13. Paint Brushes.
  14. Glitter.

Procedure:

  • Heat the oven to 120 degree Celsius.
  • The children will enjoy mixing the salt dough clay mixture.
  • Mix the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl, and add the tepid water little by little.


  • Knead the mixture until a nice consistency is formed.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes.
  • Leave the dough mixture to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Roll the dough onto the pastry board, using the rolling pin.
  • Add flour to the rolling pin if it becomes sticky.
  • Use the heart shaped cutter to cut out the heart shape for the bookmarks.
  • Place the dough heart shapes on a greased baking tray.
  • Bake the dough shapes for about six hours, turn ever hour, to create flat heart shapes.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the dough heart shapes to cool.


  • Insert the clean wooden ice-cream sticks into the dough shapes, with a dap of glue.
  • Paint the heart shapes red or dark pink.
  • Sprinkle glitter over the heart shapes, before the paint is completely dry.
  • When the paint is dry, paint the heart shapes with vanish.
  • Set aside and wait for the dough heart bookmarks to dry.
  • Place the bookmark stick in the book and the heart shape sticks out at the top.
  • Present to your Valentine. Enjoy!
