Transportation Preschool Activity

Transportation Preschool Activity:
Preschool children enjoy the transportation activity!

Preschool children love airplanes and will enjoy the simple activity. Participating in the activity, the children will experience success, and learn a new song and poem, stimulating and developing their perceptual skills.

The preschoolers will stimulate and develop their fine motor skills, eye-hand-co-ordination, as well as their auditory skills.

Creating your own Airplane!

Materials Needed for the Activity:

  1. Cardboard Colored or White.
  2. Triangular Shaped Profile Pencils. (Ideal for improving the preschooler's grip.)
  3. Stapler or Glue.
  4. Scissors.
  5. String or Chunky Wool.
  6. Paint and Paintbrushes (optional).
  7. Black Marker Pen.
  8. Templates.

Procedure:

  • The preschool children will use the templates to trace the airplane onto the colored or white cardboard, usingtheir triangular shaped pencils.
  • Next, the children can paint the airplane pieces, and set them aside to dry.
  • The children will then cut out the airplane pieces.
  • The children should place the body parts over the wings. Making sure to match A to B, and staple or glue the pieces inplace.

  • The children could use a black marker pen to draw extra detail in their plane, for example, a number or name.
  • They can then attach the pieces of string or wool to the airplane, in order to be able to swing and pull it around.

To end the activity on a high note, literally, the children should sing one of the many preschool songs on transportation. An example of an appropriate song and poem follows:

Song: Down by the Station:

Down by the Station, early in the morning,

See the little pufferbellies all in a row,

See the engine driver pull the little handle,

"Chug, chug, toot, toot!" Off we go!

Repeat.

Poem: Wheels:

Wheels, wheels, wheels,

Turning, turning, round and round

Wheels on buses, cars and trains

Faster, faster, they spin by

Round and round and round they fly.

Heavy wheels that turn machines,

Turning, pulling oh so slow.

Round and round and round they go.

Tiny wheels, inside a clock,

Whizz and whirr and jump and click

Round and round and round they tick.
