Summer Activity


Preschool Summer Activity:

The preschool children all enjoy the fun and excitement surrounding summer! During the long summer days there arelots of time for fun activities.

The children will be taken into the school garden to enjoy a summer picnic! They will be asked to observe the changesin the climate, and in nature.

They will gain new information on the summer season, and will stimulate their fine motor -, eye-hand-co-ordination skills during the activity, as well as stimulate and develop their sense of touch, smell, see, and hear.

Materials:

  1. Summer Picnic in the School Garden.



Procedure:
  • The teacher will take the children out into the school garden for a summer picnic.
  • The children will be asked to observe the changes that occurs in nature.
  • The teacher will emphasize that they should use all their senses to observe the changes in nature.
  • They will return to class and report back on their observations.
  • The children should be guided by the teacher, but the teacher should encourage them to share their observations, when using their senses, for instance, smell, touch, hear, and see.
  • The teacher should remark on the higher day - and night temperatures, and the fact that in some parts of the country summer is the rainy season.


  • The many changes in nature we can see, and the different activities we participate in during the summer months, for instance, swimming, sports, picnics, and the long summer holiday.
  • We wear cooler clothes, and we do not have to put on jackets or coats before leaving the house.
  • The teacher should teach the children the names of the three summer months, for instance, June, July, and August.
  • The teacher should teach the children, summer is the hottest season of the year, and during summer we have longer days, and the sun sets later.
  • The teacher should encourage the children to say why they enjoy summer time and share with the class the way they spent their long summer holidays!
