Preschool Farm Activities:

the-big-shiny-sparkly-activitiy-book
The preschool farm activities will present the children with enjoyable learning activities.

The children will stimulate and develop their perceptual skills during these activities.

The children love this old time favorite. They enjoy copying the animal sounds, stimulating their visual observation skills, looking at the picture, interpret the visual information, and then name the animal.

Learning the song will stimulating and develop their auditory skills also when copying the animal sounds!

Activity 1: "Old Mac Donald Had A Farm":

Materials Needed for the Activity:

  1. Colorful Pictures of Farm Animals.
  2. Preschool Song: "Old Mac Donald Had A Farm."
  3. who-lives-on-the-farm

Procedure:

  • Teach the children the familiar preschool song: Old Mac Donald Had A Farm.
  • The teacher should hold up a farm animal picture and the children will "sing" the animal indicated on the picture, for instance, when the teacher shows a picture of a cow, the children will sing: "Old Mac Donald Had A Farm, ee-eye, ee-eye, ho! And on the farm he had a cow...", and so on.

  • Song: Old MacDonald Had A Farm:

    Old MacDonald had a farm.

    Ee-eye, ee-eye, oh!

And on that farm he had some chicks,

    Ee-eye, ee-eye, oh!

    With a chick-chick here, and a chick-chick there,

here a chick, there a chick,

    Every where a chick-chick.

    Old MacDonald had a farm.

    Ee-eye, ee-eye, oh!

  • The chick should be replaced with a different farm animal, for instance, a cow, a duck, a pig, a horse, a cock, and so on. In the second, third, and fourth verses. The children will copy the sound each farm animal makes.

  • The teacher should make sure to have all the farm animal pictures. Enjoy!

Activity 2: Creating Farm Animal Masks!

This is a simple, but enjoyable activity, and should ideally be a follow up activity, after learning, and enjoying the preschool song activity!

The children will develop their fine motor muscles when making their animal masks.

Creating a Pig Mask:

Materials Needed for the Activity:

  1. Thick Cardboard.
  2. Poster Paint and Paintbrushes.
  3. Black Marker Pen.
  4. Scissors and Clear Glue.
  5. Paper Punch.
  6. Piece of Elastic.
  7. Pencils.
  8. Empty Thread Spool.
  9. over-in-the-meadow

Procedure:

  • The children should draw their pig faces on the cardboard paper, cut it out, and then paint it a "pinkish" color. Set it aside to dry.
  • Eyes should be cut out, and lashes could be drawn, using the black marker pen.

  • Paint the empty thread spool with the same "pinkish" poster paint, and set it aside to dry.
  • Draw a mouth on the pig face, and paint it red. Set it aside to dry.
  • Glue the pink thread spool onto the pig face, for the pig snout.
  • Use the black marker pen for other details, for instance, for indicating the black dots on the pig snout.
  • Punch two holes on both sides of the pig mask, and thread the piece of elastic through, after measuring the child's head for size.
  • The pig mask could be changed and a cow, horse, duck, or any other farm animal mask could be created. Enjoy!

The teacher could read or teach the children a poem on farm animals; improving their auditory - and oral skills!
Poem:Hickety Pickety:

Hickety, pickety,

My black hen,

She lays eggs for gentlemen;

Sometimes nine,

And sometimes ten.

Hickety,pickety,

My black hen!

Trad.

Baa, baa black sheep:

Baa, baa black sheep,

Have you any wool?

Yes, sir, yes, sir,

Three bags full;

One for the master,

And one for the dame,

And one for the little boy

Who lives down the lane.
