Effective Preschool Theme Activities Dogs, Cats And Pets
Preschool activities dogs and cats will provide the children with opportunities to develop their perceptual skills, and stimulate their creativity.
Activity 1: Making a Dog Card! (or Cat Card)
The children will enjoy the card making activity on a topic they love: "Dogs!" The children will stimulate their fine motor skills as well as their eye-hand-co-ordination skills.
Materials needed for the Activity: - pets and accessories set
 - caring-for-your-pets
- Colored Construction Paper.(Colors suitable for a Dog.)
- Triangular Shaped Profile Pencils for Drawing. (correct and improve the preschooler's grip.)
- Scissors.
- Black Marker Pen.
Procedure:
- The children will start the activity by folding the colored construction paper in half.
- Next, they should first draw the left half of their cat in pencil over the length of the construction paper.
- The children should cut the left side of the cat out, but make very sure that they do not cut the middle, folded part of the dog card open.
- The right half will show once they have cut out the left half of their dog, and fold it open.
- They should use a black marker pen to decorate their cats further. They could draw the eyes, whiskers, and triangular shaped noses.
Activity 2: The children love cats and will enjoy the "How to groom a Cat" hands on activity very much!They will stimulate all their senses during the lesson. The preschool children will observe, touch, smell and enjoy!
Materials needed for the Activity:
- Cat or Kitten, for demonstration purposes.
- A Cat Brush.
- Pet Shampoo.
- Bucket or Baby Bath.
- Jug.
- Towel
- Flee Powder.
- Cat Basket.
- Milk in a bowl.
Procedure:
- The children should gather round the bath. They should not frighten the cat or kitten being over enthusiastic!
- The teacher should pour luke warm water in the bath.
- The teacher should demonstrate next, how to give the cat a brush on a table prepared for the demonstration, before it takes it's bath.
- The teacher should give the preschoolers ample time to touch the cat or kitten and to participate in the activity.
- The teacher will place the cat carefully in to the bath. A child should pass some of the shampoo on to the teachers' hand. The teacher will the work up a lather rubbing the cat gently.
- Next, the preschool children will take turns, using the jug to rinse the cat, making sure they do not pour water into the animal's eyes, while the teacher holds the cat.
- The children should assist the teacher to gently rub the cat dry.
- The teacher should then rub flee powder on the cat, and then the children should help brushing the cat, and put on a collar for the final touch.
- Before putting the cat in its basket to sleep the children should give the cat some milk to drink.
