- dino-mite-color-and-activity-book
- Pictures depicting Primary Colors in Nature.
- Paint in Primary Colors.
- Pasta, suitable to be stringed.
- String.
- Poem on Color. "Yellow."
Procedure:
- The teacher should show the children pictures where primary colors are being depicted in nature.
- The teacher should encourage them to name the objects they see in nature that depict a primary color.
- The teacher should indicate that the primary colors are: red, blue, and yellow, as seen in nature, and cannot be created by mixing different colors together.
- The teacher should indicate that the primary colors cannot be mixed but they do have different shades and tones.
- The shades are created when black colorant is added to the primary color. White colorant will change the tint of the primary colors.
- The teacher should teach the children when adding a little black paint or coloring to the primary colors the colors will intensify, and if white colorant is added to the primary colors the color will have a lighter tint than the original color.
- The teacher is advised to demonstrate the mixing of colors with dry powder paint for the children to watch!
- The children should be part of the discussion, for instance, what will happen when more white powder is added?
- The children could sequence the pasta, when stringing the pasta, according to pasta shapes, or according to a color pattern.
- The children will enjoy listening to the reading of the poem.
Poem: Yellow: My face is yellow,
My hair is yellow, My shirt's all yellow, And oily too; A stringy mango Has made me yellow, As stringy mangoes Always do. I pulled off the peel With my teeth and fingers, I licked the yellow From inside the peel, And it feels all slimy And oily and greasy, As stringy mangoes Always feel.
It slips to the ground Through my slippery fingers, It's muddy now, But I love it still, For it feels so oily And greasy and lovely, As stringy mangoes Always will. Juliet Marais Louw.
