Shape and Color Math Activity for Preschool:

Activity 1: Creating Colorful Shape Mobiles:

Preschool children are inquisitive and want to learn all about their world they live in.The childen will stimulate and develop their observation skills during the activity. Shapes, patterns and colors are all around them, and appear in various forms and colors.



  • They should be able to recognize the shapes, patterns and color in objects, and in nature, for instance, a wheel is round, like a circle, or a books has a rectangular shape, and the cover is green, and a leave has a zig zag patterned edge, and so on.
  • The simple shape activity will provide the preschool children with a creative, learning activity.


  • Materials Needed for the Activity:
    1. Shape Stencils.
    2. Cardboard Paper.
    3. Colored Paint.
    4. Paint Brushes.
    5. Pencils and Scissors.
    6. A Paper Punch.
    7. Cotton Thread .
    8. Drinking Straws.


    Procedure:
    • Encourage the preschool children to nameand point out the different shapes, patterns and colors they can see around them.
    • Trace the shapes using the stencils andpencils onto the cardboard paper.
    • Paint the shapes in different colors,and set them aside to dry.
    • Punch a hole in the top of each shape, more of less, in the center.


    • Tie 3 straws together, in the shape of a triangle, using the cotton thread.
    • Tie the colored shapes on to thetriangle, from the bottom beam.
    • Enjoy!

    • Activity 2: Poem on Color:

      The children will enjoy learning the poem on color.They will stimulate and develop their auditory skills when learning the poem.

      Lavender's Blue:
    • Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly,
    • Lavender's green,
    • When I am King, dilly, dilly,
    • You shall be Queeen.
