Preschool Sensory Activities:

The children will participate keenly in the preschool sensory activity. Children love activities on nature, animals, and family.

When they play a game during an activity they participate full heartedly and the activity will leave a lasting impression on them.

Developing a their senses forms a very important part of a preschool child's school readiness program. They will stimulate their sense of smell, as well as their visual observation skills.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. me-and-my-senses
  2. Flowers in the school garden.
  3. Flavor Pots.
  4. Their lunch boxes.

Procedure:
  1. The teacher will ask the children to follow the teacher from flower to flower where they are going to be asked to smell the different flowers.
  2. The teacher will ask them to describe each flowers' smell. The children should say if the smell is soft strong, pleasant, or unpleasant.
  3. They should decide which flower in the school garden smells the best.
  4. The teacher will then ask them weather the color of a flower influences the smell of the flower.
  5. The teacher will indicate the air tight flavored pots, the teacher had prepared.
  6. The teacher will explain that the airtight pots where flavored with smells and scents from the garden.

  7. The teacher will open the pots one at a time and ask them to identify the flavors, for instance, potpourri, rose, orange and vanilla.
  8. They should all take turns to do the "smell" test. The teacher can help them to identify the smells if they failed to do so.
  9. The teacher will then spray cologne on the children's palms and ask them to see how long the smell lasts.

  10. The teacher will ask them if a person can smell under water? They will be instructed to test whether they can smell under water and report back the following day.
  11. The teacher will ask the children to play a game where the teacher will hide four objects with a distinct smell and they will seek the objects by smell, for example, an orange, lemon, pine cone, lavender twig, and so on.
  12. The "follow your nose" game will present the children with an opportunity to explore their senses in a fun way.
