Procedure:
- The teacher will take the children on a class outing, into the school garden, looking for bugs in their natural habitat.
- Pupils will be advised to observe carefully, and make mental notes of where a specific bug was found, in order to determine it's natural habitat, explaining habitat being the place where they live in nature.
- The teacher will advise preschoolers to draw the bugs sitting on a leave or flower, or collect it in their bug boxes.
- Pupil will return to the class, where all information gathered will be shared.
- The teacher should give the pupil ample opportunity to participate in the class discussions and share their findings with the class.
- The teacher should summarize the facts for the children, for example, what insects had wings, name a few, for instance, fly, bee, butterfly, and ladybugs.
- The teacher should encourage the pupil to indicate how many legs some bugs have. Most bugs have six legs, but a spider has eight legs.
- The teacher should teach the pupils the place where they found the bugs are most likely the bugs' natural habitat, for instance, bees will be close to the colorful flowers where they collect nectar to make honey when they return to their beehives.
- Snails will be under the leaves of plants and shrubs, because the shrubs provide shelter and food.
- A spider weaves it's web between twigs in a tree in order to catch it's dinner.
- The teacher will ask the children if they can tell what sound some insects make, for example, the fly makes a "zzzz" sound, the bee buzzes, and a mosquito "zzzzings" around the room.
- The teacher should teach the pupils humans can learn valuable lessons from bugs, for instance the ant.
- Ants aretiny creatures but work very hard, and gather food for the dry seasons to come, when food will be scarce. In other words ants prepare in advance.
- The teacher should advise the children to observe the bugs in the bug boxes, document or draw them, and then let them go.
