Preschool Word Games

Word Games for Preschool:

The preschool children will enjoy the word games tremendously, and develop their vocabulary, auditory - and oral skills at the same time!

"Feelies:"

  • Hide some toys or other objects in a paper bag.
  • Let the preschooler put their hand into the bag and "feel" the objects. Identifying themone by one.
  • Ask the preschooler to describe each object, while feeling it, give detail.


  • Encourage the children to use describing words such as: hard, soft, cold, smooth, curved,hollow, and so on.
  • The preschool children would have developed their observation skills, as well as their sense of touch.


Word Lists:
  • Let the preschool children start by one child saying: "I went to the zoo, and saw an elephant,"for instance.
  • The next child will continue the word list by repeating the first animal, then add another.
  • See how long the list can be, before a child omitts an animal.
  • The word game will encourage the other children to pay close attention, and thus stimulate and develop their auditory skills, during the a fun game!


"I Spy...":
  • Let a preschool child start the word game by saying: "I Spy with my Little Eye..."
  • The child will use descriptive words, giving the other childrenclues to what he or she is "spying."
  • For example: "I spy with my little eye something beginning with the sound or letter "b."
  • It is big, and has a round shape, and it blue. "What is it?" A ball.


  • Encourage the children to be creative, use their imaginations, and make their friends put on their "thinking caps."
  • The preschool children would have developed their observation skills at the same time.
  • Have fun!


Tongue Twisters:

  • The preschool children will have fun saying the tongue twisters, and "catching out" one another, getting it wrong!
  • The preschool childen will develop their auditory and oral skills during the activitiy.


  • For example: "Katie's Kittens caught Kyle's Kite."
  • "She sells sea-shells at the sea shore."
  • "Moses supposes his toeses are roses,
  • But Moses supposes erroneously,
  • For nobody's toeses are posies of roses
  • As Moses supposes his toeses to be."
  • Enjoy!
