Preschool Air Activities

They will enjoy the science air activities, and at the same time stimulate and develop their fine motor -, visual observation skills.

Observing the moving air:

  • Hope the wind co-operates!

    Materials needed for the Activity:

    1. air-is-all-around-you
    2. Washing up liquid,( Container for Mixing.)
    3. Colored Streamers or Colored Crinkle Paper, Cut into Strips.
    4. Florists' Wire.
    5. Carrier Bags.
    6. Bamboo Cane, or Sticks.
    7. Adhesive Tape, or String.
    8. Newspaper or Tissue.

    Procedure:

    • The children should use the washing liquid, mix and blow soap bubbles and observe their movement in the air.
    • Blowing hoops can be made easily, using the bamboo cane or sticks, tying the florists' wire around them in circles.
    • The bubble solution are equally easy to make. Mix the washing up liquid and water in equal parts in the container. The container should be wide enough for them to be able to dip their bubble blowers into the mixture.

    • They should try to blow the bubbles into different places: outdoors on a quiet day, inside, over a radiator, and outdoors on a windy day.
    • They should observe the direction, height and the length of the moving bubbles in the air. The children should be made aware of the difference the bubbles blow in the air.
    • Preschool children should fasten their crinkle paper or streamers to the bamboo canes or sticks, and observe their movement, waving in the air.

Air flow can be recorded by observations made by watching the flow of the bubbles and the streamers in fast moving air, then in hot air, and when blowing bubbles on windless day.
