The preschool shadow activity will teach the children more on how shadows can be an indication of time. Shadow games can be played on sunny days.

Activity 1:

Materials Needed for the Activity:

  1. Large Sheets of Paper.
  2. Pencils.

Procedure:

  1. The children should play shadow games on a sunny day. The children should try and create the biggest -, smallest -, longest -, or shortest shadows, they possible can.

  2. The children should make observations, can they stand, and let their shadow fall behind -, in front -, or at their sides?
  3. If they stand still, do their shadows move?
  4. The children can draw an interesting shadow shape, they have observed, using their pencils and sheets of paper.

Activity 2: Playing a Shadow Game:

The children will develop their gross motor skills during the activity.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. The Sun should be shinning.

  2. Procedure:

    1. The children can play a shadow game. One child should be the chaser, while the others run away from the chaser.

    2. When the chaser touches a child's shadow with their own, the particular child should "freeze", and stand still on the spot.
    3. The last child's shadow to be touched, will be the winner of the shadow game! Enjoy!

    Activity 3: Creating Shadow Pictures:

    2. Pencils for Tracing.
    3. Sheets of Paper.
