Kite Day Activities Preschool
Activity 1: Polystyrene Kite: Preschool children love activities where they can participate and experience success! The kite day activities will give the them ample opportunity to experience success and at the same time stimulate their skills. They will be able to explore their creativity and develop their visual observational, eye-hand-co-ordination, and fine motor skills.
Materials needed for the Activity: - One Polystyrene Tile per Preschool Child.
- Heavy Duty Thread.
- Flat Buttons.
- Paper.
- Colored Ribbons for the Tail.
- Colored Paint and Paint Brushes, Black Marker Pen.
- Extra Ribbons, optional.
Procedure:- The children will firstly use the pins to fasten the heavy duty thread to two of the corners at the top of the polystyrene tile and one in the middle, at the bottom.
- Next, the children will fasten the tail underneath the bottom pin.
- They can fasten colored ribbon to the tail, and decorate the tile with colored paint, black marker pens, and ribbons. They should explore their creativity!
- Most enjoyable of all is to see the kite fly! They should experiment with different materials, and design for the best results!
Activity 2: Variation on Paper Kite:
Preschool children will apply their visual - , eye-hand-co-ordination, and fine motor skills when completing this fun kite activity. They love to create an object and then be able to see how works. When the kite is complete the children should experiment flying their kites. Hope the wind co-operates! Materials needed for the Activity: - Colored Cardboard.
- Colored Streamers or Colored Crinkle Paper.
- Glue and Scissors.
- Black Marker Pen.
- Pieces of Cane to strengthen the Cardboard.
- Adhesive Tape.
- Paint and Paintbrushes or Crayons.
Procedure: - The children should use the square cardboard and fold the cardboard into a diamond shape.
- They should use their marker pens to draw a face on the kite.
- The childre can now color the faces or paint them.
- Next, they should fasten the two pieces of cane, in the shape of a cross, at the back of the kite with the tape.
- They should next fasten their crinkle paper or streamers to the bottom and side ends of the kite.
- The children should be given an opportunity to run outside and try out their kites!
