Effective Preschool Holiday Activities
Mother's Day Activities

The preschool Mother's Day Activities will not only spoil Mother's, but will provide the children with creative, enjoyable activities, developing their fine motor skills at the same time!

Activity 1: Mother's Day Placemat:

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Colored Crayons.
  2. Pencils,Scissors, glue.
  3. "14 x 20" colored construction paper.
  4. "11 x 8" same color construction paper.
  5. "11 x 8" contrasting color.(Three of each)

Procedure:

  • The children should paste two of the "11 x 8" contrasting colored papers on the "14 x 20" colored construction paper.
  • Next, they should draw flowers on the other two "11 x 8" contrasting colored paper, cut out the flowers, and paste them onto the color squares.
  • They could then draw flowers with colored crayons on to the remaining contrasting squares.


  • They may choose to draw, cut out, and paste, all flowers on the four squares.
  • Make sure the preschool children use contrasting colored flowers on the squares. This will create a colorful effect.
  • The children will take great pride in their work and will love giving this lovely gift, to their Mothers on Mother's Day!


Activity 2: Creating a Mothers Day Card:

Making and decorating cards with symbols and letters are practical pre-writing skills.

Mothers Day is a special occasion and an opportunity for all preschool children to show their love and appreciation for their mothers.

Creating cards for a special occasion is an activity all the children enjoy, sharing and participating enthusiastically.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Colorful Cardboard.
  2. Heart Shape Template to Trace.
  3. Decorating Materials: (Gold stars, Stencils, and Glitter.)
  4. Glue, and Scissors.
  5. Crayons.

Procedure:

  • The children should fold the cardboard in half. They should practice to put the opposite corners of the cardboard together and flatten the card down the middle.
  • They could decide to use the heart template instead. Trace the heart shape onto the cardboard, then cut it out.


  • They can decorate the front of the card, for example, with a heart stencil, or gold stars or a drawing of mother.
  • They should be able to copy a simple message on the inside of the card. The teacher should write the message on the board for them to copy.
  • The children should attempt writing their names under the message.
  • The children should be encouraged to hide the card until Mother's Day, and then present the card with a flower from the garden.



Activity 3: Preschool Mothers Day Gift Activity:

Creating a tea cosy for mother:

All preschool children will enjoy creating a special gift, to present to their mothers on Mothers Day!

They will develop their fine motor skills, as well as their eye-hand co-ordination, when participating in the weaving activity!

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Colorful Chunky Wool.
  2. Cardboard.
  3. Blunt Nose Needle.
  4. Scissors.
  5. Paper Punch.
  6. a-gift-for-mother

Procedure:

  • The children should start the activity by tracing two half moon shapes, onto the cardboard, then cut them out.
  • The size of the half moon shape, should be decided according to the size of their teapots.
  • They should then punch holes, around the top curved edge, of each side.
  • Another hole should be punched at the bottom, in the center of both the half moon shaped sides.
  • Next, the children should thread a string of the chunky colorful wool through the blunt nose needle.
  • They should continue to weave the wool through the punched holes, through each side.
  • The children should be weaving from the bottom hole, into each hole, around the curve.


  • They should repeat the weaving process with the other half.
  • The children should remove the cardboard shapes when the weaving is complete.
  • The teacher should assist the children, with the sewing together, of the two sides.
  • They would have created their very first tea cosy to present to Mothers for Mother's Day! Well Done!
