Effective Preschool Holiday Activities
Arbor Day Activities

Preschool Arbor Day Activity:

The preschool arbor day activity will help focus the preschool children's attention to the change in trees during the different seasons.

The language development arbor activities will expand the preschool children's vocabulary and they will develop their language skills, and learn the meaning of the new words, as well as stimulating their fine motor -, and visual observation , and auditory skills.

The children will learn how to decorate tree's, indicating the different seasons.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Sheets of Construction Paper.
  2. Objects and Materials to decorate Trees.
  3. Black Marker Pen to draw Trees.
  4. Pictures of the different canopies of Trees during different Seasons.
  5. Paint and Paintbrushes.
  6. Triangular Shaped Profile Coloring Pencils. (Improving the young child's grip.)

Procedure:

  • The teacher will show the children the colorful pictures of trees, and how their canopies change each season.
  • During summer the green canopy of a trees are visable, indicating it is summer, during autumn we observe the some trees loose all their leaves.
  • The bare winter tree, indicate that winter has arrived, and the beautiful blossoms, and tiny green leaves, seen on the trees during spring time, is a welcome sign after the long cold winter months.
  • The teacher should explain the meaning of vocabulary like: hemisphere, foliage, canopy, bare, bark, and canopy.
  • The teacher should indicate the beginning sound of words, for instance, butterfly, blossom, bee, bug, and bird. The children should try and identify the beginning sound of the words, and at the same time identify the season the words represent, for instance: "spring."


  • Repeat the exercise with all four seasons. Next, comes the fun part!
  • The children will now participate in the fun group activity, where they will all be involved in createing four trees, which will represent the four seasons.
  • The children will draw, paste and paint, working together, finishing their seasonal trees.
  • The children could be divided into four groups, each group representing a different season.

The preschool children are very social beings, and will enjoy participating in the group activity, developing their social -, and creative skills at the same time. Enjoy!

Activity 2: Variation on the Group Activity:

Creating Leave Prints:

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. One Large Sheet of Cardboard.
  2. Thin Sheets of Paper for each Child.

  3. Colored Triangular Shaped Crayons. (for improving the child's grip.)
  4. Glue and Scissors.
  5. Leaves and Pieces of Tree Bark.
  6. trees-are-terrific

Procedure:
  • The children should collect leaves from trees and small pieces of tree bark.
  • The children will place their thin sheets of paper over their leaves and softly color over them with their colored crayons.
  • This will create a leave print, indicating the leave's vines, shape, and edges.


  • The children should experiment with shades of colors and create lovely summer -,autumn -, spring -, or winter trees.
  • The children could work in groups, and glue their leave prints on a tree template provide for them by the teacher.
  • For additional effect and texture, the children could add small pieces of bark to the tree trunk and branches.



Activity 3: Creating Stand Up Trees:

Arbor Day was created to teach the children how precious trees are and to be more aware of trees in general.

The simple preschool Arbor Day Activity will provide the children with a fun, creative opportunity!

The children will stimulate their fine motor skills when completing their stand up trees.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Cardboard.
  2. Empty Toilet Roll.
  3. Colored Paint and Paint Brushes.
  4. Scissors and Glue.
  5. my-apple-tree

Procedure:

  • The children will draw and cut out the canopy of a tree, on the cardboard provided, paint it green, set it aside to dry.
  • The children should next paint the toilet rolls, brown serving as the tree trunk. Set it aside to dry.


  • Next, the children will cut out their tree canopies and glue them to their tree trunks.
  • Enjoy your standing up tree collections!
