Effective Preschool Games
Winter Games

Preschool Winter Games:

Winter games should ideally be played indoors. Children should be able to play the games without disrupting the household and items in the house, but still enjoy themselves!

  • Game 1: "I like you...":

  • theater-games-and-activities-for-kids

  • The preschool teacher or parent should assist the preschool children with the sequence of the alphabet letter, making use of an alphabet wall chart, if the children are still unsure of the alphabet letter sequence.

The children will sit in a circle, facing each other. They will start the game, when a child will turn to another child sitting to his or her right hand side, and say to the child out loud: "I like you, because you are...."

The child should choose a descriptive word starting with the first letter of the alphabet, "a", for instance "attractive."

That child will then turn to another child to his or her right hand side and say: "I like you, because you are "beautiful." Using a descriptive word, starting with the letter "b."

The children should try and find a descriptive word for every alphabet letter, following the correct sequence. Have fun!

    Game 2: "Rotten Egg":

  • This is an old time favorite, and still enjoyed by all preschool children!

All the children will sit in a circle. A child will be chosen to "lay the egg." Choose any unbreakable object, a small soft toy or handkerchief which will serve as the "rotten egg."

The child who has to lay the rotten egg, will walk around the outside of the circle, and the children sitting in the circle, will face the front, not looking at the child walking around the ring or circle.

The children may only look or feel behind them, once the child, walking around, has passed them.

The child will place the rotten egg behind one of the children sitting in the ring, unobserved, by the children sitting in the ring.

The child will continue walking around the ring, but if the child sitting in the ring, realizes that the "egg had been laid" behind him or her, the child will then jump up, take the rotten egg, and chase the child who had "laid the rotten egg."

The pursued child should try and reach the empty "nest" or place, and sit down on the spot. If the pursued child is "pecked," or caught by the child with the rotten egg, he or she will sit in the middle of the circle, and won't participate in the next round. The child with the rotten egg will then "lay" the rotten egg.

The egg becomes "rotten" when the child who has place the egg succeeded in circling the ring of children, without any of them realizing, the egg had been placed or "laid" behind them. The unobservant child will leave his or her "nest" and becomes the next child to "lay a rotten egg."

    Game 3: "Cops and Robbers":

  • The preschool children will stand in a circle, holding hands. A child will be chosen to be the "robber." He or she willbe inside the circle. Another child will be chosen to be the "cop." This child will be outside the circle.
The cop will now try and catch the robber. The children will try and prevent the robber from escaping from the circle, but the cop may move freely, in or out, of the circle. Enjoy!
