Memory Games

Preschool Memory Games:

    The preschool memory games will provide the children withenjoyable games, stimulating and developing their short - andlong term memories.

    Activity 1: "Remember Objects:"

    Materials Needed For The Activity:

    1. Objects to cover.

  • Cover objects, for instance, a comb, pencil, book, toy, and so on, with a cloth, and place the objects on a tray.
  • Show the items to the children, let them observe the items for two or three minutes, cover the items on the tray once again.
  • The children can name the items they have memorized.
  • Keep track of the items each child could remember.
  • Increase the number of items to place on the tray.


Memory Game 2: "Card Pairs."

Whenever the preschool child masters a problem or task their competence level increases, and the belief "I can" is instilled in the child.

Materials Needed for this Activity:

  1. A Pack of Playing Cards.

Procedure:

  • Place the cards face down on the table.
  • Let the child turn the cards over, one by one, and see if he can match the cards.
  • When the child do match two cards, keep the matching cards separately.


  • If they do not match, put them back with the other cards again.
  • Continue until all the cards have been matched. The child with the most card pairs win. Enjoy!


Memory Game 3: "Description Game."

The child will be asked to visualize a character from memory.

Materials Needed for this Game:

  1. Nursery Rhymes known to the children.

Procedure:

  • The children will be asked to listen to the oral description, and try to recognize their favorite nursery rhyme character, from the oral information given to them.
  • The teacher will ask the children; who sat on the wall?
  • The children will answer: "Humpty Dumpty."
  • The teacher will ask the children who sat on a tuffet?
  • The children will answer: "Little Miss Muffet," and so on.

  • The teacher could also describe favorite fairy tale story characters.


Memory Game 4: "Copy Me."

The simple memory games will improve the preschool child's ability to perform a sequence of actions.

Procedure:

  • The children will watch the teacher and copy the teacher's actions, for instance clapping hands, stamping feet, jumping in the air.
  • The teacher should increase the actions for the children to copy, following the sequence.
  • The teacher should end the game by giving the children oral instructions, instead of showing them the actions to copy.
