Effective Preschool Cooking Activities Activities with Food

Procedure: - The children will learn about the different ways of preparing eggs!
- For instance: poached eggs, omelettes, fried eggs, boiled eggs, and scrambled eggs.
- The children will learn that an egg contains a lot of protein, and protein is needed for the healthy development of the body, for instance, brain development, forming of new cells, and building strong muscles!
- The teacher will then ask the children to gather around the table, which has been prepared for cooking.
- The children will be instructed to observe closely when the teacher demonstrates how an egg is cracked open and pour the egg into a warm frying pan.
- The teacher will ask the children for another word the yellow of an egg. The yolk.
- The children should put on their aprons and get to work! This will be a practical hands on experience; at first cracking the eggs shell, and then start the baking, scrambling, frying, their eggs. The teacher should keep a close eye on procedures.

They will draw from memory, and after observation, correct their fruit and vegetables. The children will also touch, smell, and draw the fruit and vegetables, stimulating their different senses. They will enjoy mixing the paint colors to paint the fruit and vegetables. Materials needed for the Activity:
Procedure: - The children will collect and bring a wide variety of fruit and vegetables to class.
- The teacher will discuss the fruits and vegetable characteristics, for instance, their color, pips, and what special vitamin or benefit it has for us.
- The teacher should also make use of the opportunity to ask the children what their favorite fruits and vegetables are.
- The children will then discuss the taste of the fruits and vegetables, sweet, sour or salty.
- The children will pass the fruit and vegetables around, smelling and touching them. They will learn new vegetables and fruits that are not as well known to them, for instance the aubergine.
- Next, they will get an opportunity to draw the insides of the fruits and vegetables from memory. It is advisable for the teacher to choose the most commonly used fruits and vegetables.
- The teacher will cut fruit and vegetables in half. The children will be asked to observe and compare their drawings to the actual fruits and vegetables.
- The children will have an opportunity to correct their drawings and then start mixing the paint colors, and paint their fruits and vegetables as realistically as possible.
- The children will learn how to create different colors by mixing the three primary colors, for example to create the purple color for an aubergines, they will have to mix red and blue.
