Cooking Activity 1: Gingerbread Boys and Girls:

All preschool children enjoy creating their very own gingerbread boy or gingerbread girl, cookies! This is an old time favorite recipe!

The children should be encouraged to decorate their gingerbread boys and girls creatively!

The teacher or parent, could premix the cookie mixture, or let the boys and girls join in the fun of preparing the dough, stimulating their fine motor muscles!

Gingerbread Man Ingredients:

  1. 225 g cake flour.(400 ml)
  2. 10 ml ground ginger.
  3. a pinch of salt.
  4. 115 g cols margarine, chopped.(125 ml)
  5. 180 g soft brown sugar.(225 ml)

  6. Ingredients for Decoration.

Glaze:

  1. 1 egg yolk.
  2. 25 ml milk.
  3. second-helpings

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to a 180 degrees Fahrenheit, or Gas Mark 4.
  • Sift all the dry ingredients, together.
  • Rub the margarine into the dry ingredients, until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Add the egg and mix until a dough forms.
  • Place the dough in a plastic bag, and leave to cool in the refrigerator.
  • Flour a pastry board and roll the dough out thinly.


  • Use gingerbread man shape cookie cutters, and cut out a gingerbread boy or girl for each child.
  • Place the gingerbread boys and girls onto a greased baking sheet.
  • Beat the egg yolk and milk together, and paint the gingerbread boys and girls with the mixture.
  • Bake the biscuits for 8 - 10 minutes, or until they are golden brown, in a preheated oven by 190 degrees Celsius.
  • Allow for the biscuits to cool, before decorating them, using colored icing sugar mixture, and sweets.
  • Enjoy decorating your gingerbread boy or girl. Be creative!



Cooking Activity 2: Colorful Cupcakes!

The preschool children love participating in cooking activities, especially if it taste good too!

    Cup Cakes Ingredients:

    1. 125 g caster sugar.
    2. 125 g self raising flour.
    3. 2 eggs.
    4. Ingredients for Decoration.

    Method:

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, or Gas Mark 4.
    2. Sift the cake flour into a mixing bowl, and blend with a wooden spoon.
    3. Add the caster sugar and eggs. Blend the mixture with a wooden spoon.
    4. Spoon the mixture into paper cake cases, and bake in the oven for 18 minutes.


    5. While the cup cakes are baking, mix the icing sugar mixture.
    6. Add different colors food coloring to the icing sugar mixture, which have been divided into different bowls.
    7. When the cup cakes are cooled, start decorating the cup cakes with the colored icing sugar mixture, add some silver edible glitter, chocolate sprinkles and colored sweets. Enjoy!
