Effective Preschool Art Activities
Summer Art Activities

Preschool summer art activity will stimulate and develop the children's perceptual skills!

Summer has finally arrived! The preschool children love this time of year, and all the activities done in summer! The art activity is simple, and is enjoyed by all the children.

They will enjoy the fine motor skill activity, stimulating their eye-hand-co-ordination, and exploring their creative abilities at the same time!

Camping Out:

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. fun-summer-activities

  2. One 12" Square Sheet.
  3. 12 x 6" Square for the Water.
  4. 12 x 4" Green Sheet of Paper for the Tent.
  5. Red Colored Paper for the Camp Fire.
  6. Scissors, and Glue.
  7. Colored Crayons.
  8. Materials for Decorating.

Procedure:

  • The preschool children will place the sheet of green construction paper down in front of them, and start their camping site by cutting out different color paper and glue it to their green construction paper.
  • The blue piece of paper will be used to create a dam or pond. To give the edge a more realistic water look, the children could add a curved outline to the dam. The children will then glue the blue paper to the green sheet. The blue paper would indicate a "dam" or "pond."
  • The children should fold the green piece of paper in four equal parts, length wise.

  • It is advisable for the children to fold back a "foot" at both ends, to make the "stand up" tent more secure.
  • They can use small pieces of sticks for the "logs" around the "fire." The red paper will be used to create a fire.
  • The children should glue small pieces of shrubs, grass or twigs on the green sheet of construction paper, creating their "camp site."
  • The children can explore their creativity and add "fish" to their "pond", "animals" or small to "people."
  • Enjoy!

Activity 2: Preschool Sensory Flower Activity:

The preschool children will enjoy this sensory activity while at the same time stimulating their senses. They will touch, smell, and observe in the activity.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Colored squares of paper.
  2. Triangular Shaped Profile Coloring Pencils.(Ideal for improving the preschooler's grip.)
  3. Scissors.
  4. Aromatic aerosol spray.
  5. Paper for drawing a vase.
  6. Black Permanent Marker.
  7. Green Colored Pipe Cleaners.

Procedure:
  • The children will cut the colored paper about 12 cm square. They should then fold in half corner to half corner, and then in half again.
  • The teacher should assist the children with the folding of the paper.

  • They should draw a curved line from corner to corner as shown. They will then cut through all thickness at the same time, then open out the flower and draw a black dot in the center with a permanent black marker. The children should make several colored flowers.
  • Next, they could draw a vase for their flowers and color the vase. The children can use green colored pipe cleaners for stems and paste the stems under the flower petals.
  • The teacher could spray a touch of flower scented spray on each flower to add the final touch to their arrangement! Have fun making your artworks!
