Effective Preschool Art Activities Rainbow Fish Art Activity
The rainbow fish preschool activity, will provide the children with a lot of fun, when creating their own Rainbow Fish! The children will stimulate their fine motor skills as well as provide the children with opportunities to explore their own creativity. During the rainbow fish activity the children will learn more about the colors of a rainbow fish, as well as the names for the different type of fins, and the position of the fins on the fish.
Materials needed for the Activity: - Colorful Picture of a Rainbow Fish.
- Construction Paper: 12 x 15" in one color, and a number of Contrasting Colors Construction Paper of 8 x 6".
- Scissors and Glue.
- Triangular Shaped Profile Coloring Pencils (Ideal for improving the preschooler's grip.)
- Materials for Decorations.
- A4 Paper.

Procedure: - To start of the activity, the children will first create a double end-cone, using the A4 paper.
- Make a pencil dot on the A4 piece of paper, in the middle of both the short sides.
- Fold in halve, and let the corners overlap, nearest to the dot and paste.
- The fish begins with a 12 x 15" double end-cone.
- The tail fin should be cut from the 8 x 6" pieces of paper. The tail fin will be attached by means of a vertical slot cut into the tip of one of the end-cones.
- The back, or dorsal fin, is made by folding a piece of paper to form an "L" shape. This "L" shaped fin is pasted on to the back of the fish, or inserted into the fish through a slot cut in the back, and pasted inside the fish.
- The bottom or anal fins, are cut out and pasted into position, in the same way.
- The remaining fins, the triangular pelvic and pectoral fins, are cut out and pasted into position, then your fish is done! Observe, and follow the step by step instructions together with the teacher.
Rainbow Fish Preschool Activity 2: Make a rainbow fish fish tank: The simple activity will provide the children with an opportunity to create, and stimulate their creativeskills and at the same time have a lot of fun! The children will develop their fine motor skills when cutting, drawing and painting their fish tank and fishes. Materials needed for the Activity: - Cardboard Box.
- Scissors and Glue.
- Paint and Paint Brushes.
- Wool or String.
- Colored Construction Paper (for drawing and cutting out the rainbow fish.)
- Black Marker Pen.

Procedure:- The children should start off the activity by painting their cardboard boxes blue, and set them aside to dry.
- Draw and cut out the rainbow fishes and fasten a piece of string to their backs, and hang them from the top of the box, as if, the fishes are swimming.
- Use the black marker pen to add the eyes of the fish, and other markings. Enjoy!
- They can add materials to their fish tanks, for instance; plants, rocks, plastic fishes or a treasure chest!
