Effective Preschool Art Activities
Healthy Bodies Art Activities

Preschool children will enjoy the healthy bodies preschool art activity. They will explore with colors, shapes and textures, at the same time creating fruit and vegetable men. The children will stimulate their fine motor -, and eye-hand-co-ordination skills during the activity.

The teacher should emphasis the importance of healthy eating habits, and how eating fruit and vegetables gives our bodies important nutrients, and fibre.
Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. stories-and-activities-featuring-food-for-preschool-children
  2. Rough Sponges.
  3. Paint in a variety of Colors, premixed.
  4. White Paper Sheets.
  5. Triangular Profile Pencils for Drawing.(Ideal for the preschooler's grip.)
  6. Black Marker Pens.
  7. Scissors.

Procedure:

  • The children will dip their sponges in the colored paint, using a color at a time, and then clean their sponges thoroughly, after each dip.
  • They should sponge the paint over a half of the white sheet of paper. Set the sheet of paper aside, and let it dry. The children should repeat the process a few times, using a different shade of paint, every time.


  • The children will use the sponged painted sheets, and draw with their triangular shaped pencils their fruit and vegetable men.
  • Red would used for a strawberry man, using the heart shape of a strawberry, or a tomatoes man, using the round shape of a tomatoes, yellow would be a lemon man, using the oval shape of a lemon, or a banana man, using thelong oval shape of a banana.
  • The children will use their black marker pens to draw faces on the fruit and vegetable men.
  • Last but not least, the children should cut out the fruit and vegetable men.
  • The teacher should display the colorful fruit -, and vegetable men, on a display table.


Activity 2:

They will enjoy the art activity, using vegetables, and at the same time stimulate and develop their fine motor skills, sequencing of a pattern as well as their eye-hand-co-ordination.

Materials needed for the Activity:

  1. Carrots.
  2. Potatoes.
  3. Colored Paint.
  4. Paper.
  5. Black Marker Pen.
  6. Extra Vegetables.

Procedure:

  • The children will need assistance from the teacher to cut the carrots and potatoes in halve, and cut a shape on pattern on the carrots and potatoes.
  • The carrots and potatoes shapes should be dipped in the colored paint, and the vegetable stamps can be printed on white paper.
  • They could make a pattern round the edges of their sheet of paper alternating two shapes and two colors.
  • This will help them practice the sequencing of a pattern.


  • The children should cut a wide variety of vegetables in half and dip the halves into the paint, and make prints of the lines and vines of the vegetables natural patterns.
  • The children can use a black marker pen to outline their patterns for extra effect.
