The preschool alphabet ideas and activities will provide the children with fun learning activities, teaching them moreabout the alphabet, stimulating their eye-hand-co-ordination and fine motor skills .
Recognize the Alphabet Letters in your Name:
Materials Needed for the Activity:
- Sandbox.
- Cardboard Paper.
- Black Felt Pen.
- Wax Crayons.
- Colored Paint.
- Popped Popcorn. (Colored for Effect.)
- Clear Glue.
- Alphabet Song C D and C D Player.
Procedure:
- The teacher or parent should "sound" the alphabet letters out loud when demonstrating the different alphabet letter formations to the children. They should copy the teacheror parent.
- Let the child or children sit in a circle, around the sandbox on the mat.
- Indicate the alphabet letters formation, by writing the letters in the sand.
- Give the children the opportunity to explore with different textures when practicing writing the alphabet letters in their names.
- After the children had tried writing their names in the sand, show them how their names are written on the cardboard paper, using a black felt pen.
- Let each child trace their name over the black felt pen images, first using their fingers and then with the colored paint and then the wax crayons.
- The children could also "write" their names in the air.
- The following activity will be enjoyed by all children. Use the colored popped popcorn to glue onto the alphabet letters written on the cardboard paper.
- At all times the correct alphabet letter formation should be emphasized and followed.
- There are a variety of lovely alphabet letter songs available, teach the childrena song on the alphabet and letthem sing the song together. Enjoy!
Alphabet Song: This is an old favorite alphabet song! A - B - C - D -E - F - G - H - I - J - K - L - M - N - O - P Q - R - S - T U - V, W - X - Y and Z. Now I know my A - B - C's, Next time won't you sing with me? Repeat.
