Effective Preschool Alphabet Activities
Literature Activity

The preschool children will enjoy the literature activity, participating in the group, learning a new poem, and role play the poem, afterwards.

Role play forms an important part of the preschool child's preparation for school readiness, and the children will develop their confidence through role play!

Materials Needed for the Activity:

1. Poem.

Group 1: "Tinkle-tinkle, Tink." Group 2: "Clang!, Clang! Clang-a-clang!"

Group 1: Did you hear that frightening bang?

Group 3: The fire brigade is rushing past,

The bell rings fast and still more fast:

Group 2: Clang-clang, clang-a-clang, Clang-clang, clang-a-clang, CLANG! Group 3: "Dong! Dong! Dong! Dong!"

Group 2: The great church clock says: Group 2 & 3: "Come along,

Come to church, oh, come and pray, Come and pray this holy day!"

All Groups: Dong! Dong! Dong! Dong! D-O-NG-NG-NG-NG! N. Kirby. The groups should alternate, and take turns to be in group 1, 2, and 3. The preschool children will enjoy creating the different sounds, using their voices, experimenting with tone, intonation and voice projection!

Activity 2: Preschool Nursery Rhyme Activity:

"Humty Dumty"

This is a practical fun literacy and art activity, on the egg character "Humpty Dumpty."

The preschool children identify with fictional characters and will enjoy the story lesson. The children will enjoy learning and singing the "Humty Dumty" song together.

The children will have fun with the practical application of the Humty Dumty character, when play acting the character. This activity will improve their confidence!

Materials needed for the Activity:

1. the-bilingual-book-of-rhymes-songs-stories-and-finger-plays

2. "Humpty Dumpty" Song.
3. "Humpty Dumpty" presented as a short story.
4. "Humpty Dumpty" rhyme.
5. Eggs for making a "Humpty Dumpty."(Eggs should be boiled or blown out.)
6. Paint and Paintbrushes.
7. Empty plastic container for an egg to sit upon. (Egg cups will also do.)

Procedure:
• The preschool children will listen to the story of the "Humpty Dumpty Character."
• The children will learn the rhyme, and put the words to music, singing the song together.
• The children will learn that "Humpty Dumpty" was sitting on was a bridge, and the flow of the water, passing under the bridge was to strong and the bridge broke, and the Kings men and the Kings horse's couldn't put it together again, refers to the people of the time who couldn't managed to rebuilt the wall.



• The children will enjoy singing the "Humpty Dumpty" song, and should be encouraged to put actions to the words.
• Next, the children will put on their aprons, and prepare to create their own "Humpty Dumpty" characters.
• The children will be encouraged to think creatively, and use little containers for the "egg man" to sit upon. The children should decorate, and paint their containers.
• The children should hold an exhibition of their art creations!

Poem:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall!

All the Kings horses and all the Kings men,

Couldn't put Humpty together again!
