Effective Preschool Alphabet Activites
Letter "c" Activity

Preschool letter "c" activities will provide the children with a lot of fun, teaching them the correct letter formation.

The children should learn all new alphabet letters, when reading or writing them for the first time, using a wide variety of textures. Play dough is still a of their favorite for preschool children!

This activity provides them with an opportunity to stimulate their fine motor muscles, kneading and forming the play dough alphabet letters.

The teacher could start the activity by letting them join in the fun of preparing the play dough, or the teacher could prepare the play dough in advance. The teacher should ensure their safety at all times!

  • It is advisable for them to wear aprons for this activity, because it could become messy!

      Method:

      • Mix all the dry ingredients together in a saucepan.
      • Then little by little add the water, cooking oil, vanilla essence, and vegetable coloring.
      • Add all to the dry ingredients.

      • Stir in slowly over a hot plate, until the mixture forms a stiff ball by stirring it with a wooden spoon.
      • Switch the plate off, and continue stirring until all the moisture has disappeared.
      • Let it cool a little.
      • Knead the dough for at least two minutes.
      • Store the soft dough in a air tight container. (It can last for at least three months, if stored like this.)

      • Materials for Decoration. (Optional.)

      Procedure:

      • The teacher will hand each child a lump of the cooled play dough. They will enjoy the opportunity to knead, rub, roll and play with the dough for a while.
      • When their fine motor muscles have been warmed up the teacher will then show them the correctletter format of the alphabet letter "c."
      • They should practice the letter format in the air, a few times over.
      • The children will them roll the dough into a "snake" shape, using forward and backward rolling movements.
      • They should now start forming the alphabet letter, paying special attention to the starting point and the correct formation.

      • They should put the letters aside and wait for them to dry.
      • While the children wait for the play dough letters to dry, they should sing alphabet songs and say alphabet rhymes!
      • When dry, they should choose from the colored paint and paint the letters in bright colors!
      • The freshly painted letters will be placed down in order to dry, once again, and then the teacher should display them in a letter exhibition!
      • The children could add colored glitter for extra effect. Enjoy!
