Activities Traffic Lights Preschool


Activities traffic lights preschool will teach the children about the importance of traffic lights and traffic rules and regulations in enjoyable activities!

The children will develop their visual discrimination skills as well as their cognitive - and fine motor skills!

Activities on Traffic Lights for Preschool:

Materials Needed for the Activity:

  1. Red, Yellow, Green and Black Paint and Paintbrushes.
  2. 3 White paper Circles per Child.
  3. Clean Wooden Ice-Cream Sticks.
  4. Clear Glue.
  5. Objects for creating a Make Belief City.
  6. Big Sand Box.





Procdure:
  • The teacher should explain the meaning, and position of the three colors, used on traffic lights to the children.
  • Shapes, colors, sighs and symbols conveys messages to us.
  • When traffic rules are not obeyed by people, they break the law and can be prosecuted.
  • Circles tell us what to do and what not to do!
  • The teacher should convey the message; we have to obey traffic rules in order to ensure our safety and arrive alive!
  • Red stands for "STOP!"
  • Yellow stands for "CAUTION!"
  • Green stands for "GO!"


  • The teacher should take the children outside and let them use traffic signs, and place them on a track or walk ways, and let them experience the "meaning" of the traffic lights by walking the walk ways and obeying the traffic signs and rules, themselves.
  • It is also a good idea to teach the children a song or poem on the traffic lights, their colors and the importance of their meaning!
  • The children will there after paint the three circles a color, namely, red, yellow and green.


  • Place the three circles down and while waiting for them to dry, paint the stick or "traffic pole" black.
  • Wait for the stick to dry, while singing their "traffic song" or reciting their "traffic poem," then place the three "traffic lights" in the correct sequence onto the stick, and glue them in their correct position onto the stick.
  • The children can display their traffic lights in a sand box, and create make belief roads, use little cars and place them on the roads, and decorate their "city" with sticks, and other suitable objects. Have fun!
